The AI world never sleeps. Stanford dropped a 386-page report on the State of AI. If you don't have hours to read it, check out our thread, where we summarized the main points for you.
It might seem like just yesterday, but it's been almost 6 months since Elon Musk bought Twitter and became CEO. Since then, we've seen a number of changes, from the upheaval of the verification system to adding a tweet view counter. Some folks are happy, and some have been looking for an alternative.
Enter Substack Notes.
Announced yesterday, Substack Notes is a new feature launched by the popular writing platform. It's designed to let users share posts, quotes, comments, images, and links in a short-form feed. Sounds familiar, right?
Substack seems to agree too, at least on the surface level, saying Notes "may look like familiar social media feeds." However, the company argues that once you dig a little bit deeper, you see the difference between the two.
Quality over quantity: One of the big ways it differs is ads; Substack doesn't rely on ads. It's a subscription-based service, and according to the company, this could lead to more quality discussions.
Substack states in their announcement that "by contrast, the lifeblood of a subscription network is the money paid to people who are doing great work within it. Here, people get rewarded for respecting the trust and attention of their audiences." Substack is likely capitalizing on the recent spats of chaos at Twitter. Some users might be looking for a more quality-driven platform, in contrast to going viral.
While it may not take over the reins as the short-form social champ just yet, it could be a breath of fresh air.
